NACPM STANDARDS

As a state chapter of NACPM, we expect all members to uphold the standards and values of the national organization. These include:

  • Working in partnership with each person we serve.
  • Recognizing that each client is responsible for their own health and well-being
  • Actively working to avoid imposing your value system on clients
  • Working collaboratively with other health professionals while maintaining autonomous practice.
  • Basing clinical management on empirical and/or trial evidence
  • Striving to minimize technological interventions
  • Maintaining your own health and well-being to optimize your ability to provide care in the long-term
  • Supporting each client's right to plan her care according to her needs and desires
  • Sharing information in language that is understandable to the client
  • Upholding safe boundaries by refusing to provide or continue care (referring onwards where needed) if the midwife deems the situation or the care requested to be unsafe or emotionally harmful
  • Collecting and recording client’s health data, problems, decisions and plans comprehensively throughout the caregiving partnership
  • Filing legal documents appropriately
  • Continuously evaluating and improving your knowledge, skills, and practice management  to provide the best possible care
